Several ways: use the built-in browser to browse sites and long-press any image to import it directly; download a ZIP file in the browser and it will be automatically extracted and imported; or use the share sheet from Files or Apple Photos to import into Oak Viewer.
Just download it normally in the browser. ZIP files are automatically detected, extracted, and imported. Progress is shown in the Activity panel.
Select the photos you want to move using the Select button, then tap Move. You can move to any existing folder, including pinned folders which appear at the top of the picker.
Deleted photos go to the Trash first, not deleted immediately. You can recover them from Trash in the Library. Emptying the trash permanently removes them.
Open the Library and tap the Trash section. You can restore individual photos or permanently delete them. You can also set auto-empty in Settings.
Press the folder icon with a plus symbol to create a smart folder. Then select the "Smart Folder for star ratings".
Resume tracks where you left off — the last folder and photo you were viewing. When you reopen a folder where you were previously looking at images, a "resume" button will show on the pill in the upper right hand corner. The home screen widget shows your last viewed photo and tapping it jumps directly back to it.
Long-press a folder in the Library and choose Pin, or manage pinned folders from Settings. Pinned folders stay at the top of the library and appear first in move/copy sheets.
Long-press a folder and choose Edit, or tap the folder's thumbnail in the folder edit sheet. Options are: first photo in the folder, a star, an emoji, or a photo you select manually.
Select photos using the Select button, then tap Share. You can save to Apple Photos or export to the Files app.
Open a folder, tap the menu, and choose Find Duplicates. The duplicate finder uses perceptual hashing to find visually similar images (not just exact matches). You can adjust the similarity threshold, then review groups and choose which copies to delete. Auto-select will keep the largest file in each group. Removed duplicates go to Trash.
Go to Settings → App Icon and choose from the available options.
It's a full web browser with tabs, Reader mode, Find on Page, and per-site zoom. It's also the primary way to import photos — long-press any image to import it, or download ZIP files which are auto-imported.
Yes. Go to Settings → Appearance to set a custom background image for the library.
Ratings are stored in the app's internal database, not written back to the photo file's EXIF data. This means ratings are private to Oak Viewer and will not appear in other apps, and they will be lost if the app is deleted.
All data is stored locally on your device in the app's private container. There is no cloud sync, no external server, and no data transmission. The AI describer (if used) runs entirely on-device using Apple Intelligence.

No. All data is stored locally on your device only. There is no iCloud or any other cloud sync.
Open a photo in the full-screen viewer and tap the image. The histogram will show in the bottom right corner. It shows the tonal distribution of the image — shadows on the left, highlights on the right. Red/yellow stripes indicate clipped shadows or blown highlights. The About this Histogram will describe the histogram to you, and there is additional information about how to read the histogram below.
It generates a natural-language description of a photo using Apple Intelligence — entirely on-device. It analyzes scene content, subjects, and lighting to produce a one-sentence description. Requires iOS 18.1+ with Apple Intelligence enabled.
